Does the hair removal actually last forever or does it eventually grow back?

From my experience it may come back in a greatly reduced density. Though I had it done years ago and I am sure that the lasers have improved.

The results can be variable depending on the device used and the skin type. But generally the results range from a reduction in hair anywhere randing from 10-20% per treatment. Necessitating between 4-7 treatments for permanent hair "removal."
Generally light skinned people with dark hairs (good candidates) respond faster and more quickly to IPL. Poor candidates who are more difficult and required more treatments and care are those including:
1. Dark skinned people
2. Fair haired people with fair skin. Eg the redheads and very pale platinum blondes.

So how many treatments on average would it take for, say an Asian, to get permanent results?

Dark hair is actually easier to treat? I was worried because my hair is dark and thick and I thought it would take longer and be more expensive$$ hmm...

HI Gocat. Nah it worked a treat for me. Dark thick curly hair. Pale skin. Only took 4 treatments for my legs. Its the best money I've ever spent

I second that. I had four treatment courses and have never looked back. Waxing was always a bit too much suffering for beauty in my opinion.

I only just had my 3rd session 2 days ago.
I was reassured multiple times by my doctor that the hair follicles would be destroyed and it would be impossible for them to come back.
So far the hair has stayed thing but I can't comment about what it is like years down the track. It has been about 5 months now for me.

I have read this is not exactly true.
If you have a hormone problem liek polycystic ovaries the hormones can cause new follicles to grow.
But t-wylies statement is almost always true

In medicine never say never!
The body is amazingly complex and all things are possible though perhaps not probable.
Patients with hirsuitism (excessive hairy-ness) due to hormone problems, typically PCOS, are quite a bit harder to treat with Laser Hair Removal than the standard patient. It will help, it will decrease the amount of hairs but the treatment course is generally longer and more expensive.
