Hi everyone,

I'm going to have to get something done about my buttock hair. Its been a serious serious problem ever since yr 10. Where I was the butt of jokes (sorry about the pun) for ages.

I was thinking of getting my private areas including testicles and so on all done at the same time.

I just wanted to know if laser hair removal was safe around this area. I haven't had any children yet and I wanted to know if it was safe.

I asked about the same thing myself crown jewels.

The doc told me you can never say never.

but there has never been any evidence the red wavelength of light damage DNA so its almost definitely safe.

I'm just a research bunny and don't have any clinical data. But as far as I know no one has ever thought DNA could be damaged by red wavelength electromagnetic radiation.

And remember there is quite a bit of skin and tissue between your spermatocytes and the Intense Pulse Light.

If the Intense Pulse Light really is penetrating through the skin, fat, testicular tissue to reach the vulnerable germ line cells I would hazard a guess your doctor has the power up way too high!

Can't say for sure though. Be interesting to see what the Docs (the honoury title doctors not the real phd doctors) say.

I don't have a phd but I do remember very clearly from my undergrad days that visible light can never generate enough energy to cause DNA damage.

I vaguely remember something about not enough energy to create ionising radiation but you might have to ask starfish about the details. Something to do with quanta of energy as opposed to intensity or something.

But I too think your little swimmers will be safe from IPL treatments

I guess that makes sense when you think about it.

If laser hair removal can't damage the DNA of the skin and cause skin cancer then there's no way in the world it can get through all the layers of the skin and your errr crown jewels and damage the DNA of your little swimmers

Hair removal around the testicles is a request we get quite frequently.

Although there has never been any prooof laser hair removal can damage DNA and subsequently damage the sperm in general we tend to do less of this procedure but it is purely for practical reasons.

The skin around the testicles and tends to be quite a bit darker than the other areas of the body. In general treating darker skin results in greater pain since the dark skin proportionally absorbs more light energy than lighter skin. In addition hair removal for dark skin is less effective.

In addition the area is very sensitive - for self evident reasons.

So purely from a pain point of view we find a lot of men do not opt for laser hair removal around these areas once they find out exactly what it entails.

I've been thinking of getting laser hair removal down "there" for quite a while.

Does it really hurt that much?

I think thats going a bit too far myself.

There are plenty of options for hair removal, I know maybe its because you get a lot of ingrowing hairs or something, but really, I would just not do it.

You'll never forgive yourself if in 10 years time you turned out to be wrong about the safety of it.
