Restylane vs. Juvederm

Seems like there's a miracle product launched every other month.

I've been having Restylane injections for the past 4 1/2 years and I'm a huge fan. The subtle plumpness in the mouth is just so fabulous. Worth the pain of the little numbing injections.

Does anyone know if Juvederm is as good? There is a bit of a marketing push going on where I am. Two of the big clinics in downtown Houston are running specials on Juvederm. Juvederm's supposed to be a softer, smoother product. But what I'm worried about is if it would last as long or break down sooner because it's softer?

My Doctor convinced me to try some juvederm. Its quite nice. Very soft and realistic feeling.

I can't say if it lasts as long since I only just got it but certainly a lot softer feeling than restylane

I'm a huge fan of restylane and adore the look it gives my lips. A really nice definition without plumping them up to Bratz Dolls proportions.

My Doctor recently got me to try juvederm for the first time. It was gorgeous around my face. Much softer and more natural feeling.

But I have to admit for my lips I prefer restylane. It just seems to define my lips a bit better. I think its because of the hardness.

For my lips I'm sticking with restylane. But everywhere else give me juvederm!

Juvederm is an exciting new product. Its only been released very recently so we are all finding the best place and indications to use it.

In general we have found that it is quite a bit softer and more natural looking than restylane. We have got outstanding results for filling in deep static wrinkle lines and filling nasolabial folds. It gives a nice soft look which feels quite natural.


As someone else alluded the results for the lips are a bit different. It depends on what the patient wants. If they are interested in just defining the lips a bit rather than plumping them up then in general we've found restylane to still be superior.

In terms of longevity juvederm is still so new that we don't have good data on how long the filler lasts. Anecdotally it does appear like it actually lasts a bit longer than restylane but we should have a firm answer by the end of the year.

In conclusion juvederm seems to be a good product which we are confident will find its place amongst our dermal fillers.

The older fillers remain good products and if patients liked the effect of the other fillers we haven't yet found a compelling need to swap them over.

Can juvederm and botox be used together? If so, is it safe to get them at the same time? I just got juvederm for the first time today for the "dent" between my eyebrows. So far I LOVE it! But wasn't sure if it would be better to use botox with it for better results??

My doctor always prefers to botox first and then see what happens to the "bumps". Supposedly the botox means the restylane will last longer as well because it isn't been repetitively folded by the muscles.

My bumps softened a lot with botox and the doc required far less restylane to fill in the gap.


So in short. I think botox and restylane work great together.

I have been injecting fillers since 1985. I personally like injecting Juvederm over Restylane. It is a lot smoother product and is lasting longer. It lasts about 1 year.Most of my patients prefer the Juvederm.It does not lump and does not have the few days of redness and swelling that Restylane has after the procedure. I am a Board Certified Dermatologist.

I really like juvederm. Its lasted about 12 months now for me in my lips. The old restylane only ever lasted 5-6 months. I'ld gladly pay twice as much for juvederm based on the time it lasts alone!

The other thing I like, similar to a lot of other posters here, is the fact its a lot softer. You should at least try juvederm instead of restylane at least once.

I for one am never going back.

I recently received my first Juvederm. I feel that it was necessary for me to look how i feel. I am extremely happy with my results and I feel sorry for myself that i haven't found out about it earlier.

Botox and juvederm can certainly be used together. If time is not an issue the way Golden Pigeon described is probably best.


Inject the botox first into say the frown - wait 2-4 weeks for the botox to have full effect and see how much it softens the static lines by itself. And then fill the remainder volume deficit with juvederm.

If you are getting botox and fillers done on the same day I prefer to do it the other way around.


We inject the dermal fillers first to make up for the volume deficit in the relevent area. Then we inject the botox.

Its probably a bit theoretical but most of us prefer to do it this way to minimise the chance of accidentally pushing the botox into the wrong place by putting in the dermal filler 2nd.

I really liked that Juvederm lasted for almost a year as opposed to Restylane that lasted for only 6 months. I used Restylane before and I am big fan of Juvederm. If you want, I can recommend you to a great place. They are really professional and very reasonably priced.

My derm told me there's no difference between juvederm and restylane.
She said both gave long lasting natural looking results for wrinkle treatment. but researched juvederm and their official site sure makes it sound more effective. and also I heard that *edited link* Dallas Botox can also be done with juvederm.
