This is kind of embarrassing... Can Botox really work for severely excessive sweating?? Has anyone tried it? I'm currently sort of controlling it with iontophoresis (bought a machine for $1300 on Ebay) plus sports deodorant plus bringing a change of shirt with me all the time. Once you get into a routine it's ok-ish. Getting a bit sick of it though... And I'm really worried about my wedding dress! :(

If it works I think even the $1000+ cost would be worth it. But I really don't want to fork out over 1K if it's some sales pitch!

There was a post a while ago discussing excessive sweating. As far as I know it works really well for underarm hyperhidrosis and doesn't have the side effects of surgery. Botox is way cheaper than surgery too!

Excessive sweating of the underarms, palms or soles of feets is called Hyperhydrosis. There are many managment techniques for this condition. Everyone should try a good deoderent before shelling out on expensive medical therapies! Historically the problem was managed by anti-cholinergic drugs which, to be effective, not only stoppped your sweating but also your saliva (dry mouth), vision (dry eyes) and bowels (dry .... well you get the idea). Surgery, sympaphectomy (cutting of the sympathetic nervous chain which supplies the sweat glands with nerual inputs) was also a last option.

Botox is a relatively new treatment for this condition. The neurotransmitter botox blocks (acetylcholine) is also the same transmitter that causes sweating. The evidence suggests that 50 units of botox under each arm will return sweating levels to normal for 6-12 months. It is early days but Botox is looking to be a very encouraging and mostimportantly safe remedy for this age old problem.

Hi bride to be!

I've been getting botox for 3 years now and have done a lot of research into it. At first when I heard of botox being a treatment for excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis) I thought it was just more people trolling on the forums.

It looks like it is a legitimate treatment though. The american cosmetic medical forums are full of posts about how effective it was for excessive sweating. Unlike normal botox it looks like the effects last for 12 months too. Email or PM me if you want the forum link.

I had Botox done to treat my Hyperhidrosis. I've been bone dry underneath the armpits for over 10 months now. Its fantastic. I really recommend it
