My redness was probably a little bit less than amonsters.
I really only needed 48 hours off work.
I think my pain was similar. It was a shock at first. After 3 or sessions you must start getting used to it.

Hi amonster,
four sessions in total. I didn't get it done for any one reason. I had some mild acne scarring in 3 or 4 places, probably the main problem was large pores and I just always thought my skin looked a bit dull and tired.
I considered getting deep chemical peels but elected to go for fraxel resurfacing.
As I said before I was very happy with the results

Sorry I'm not sure about the exact settings they used amonster.
I know they used more power on teh 2nd session and then stayed at that level. I had reached the limits of my pain tolerance at that point.

I spoke to my doctor about this. Interestingly, he put it on my list of procedures I might want to consider. I later spoke to 2 of his nurses who I have to say, looked at me as if I was mad, and informed me Fraxel is more suitable for those with acne scarring, pitted and damaged skin, and that's it's quite a bloody procedure. I was told my skin was in too good a condition to undergo this. I have no idea myself but will hold off on it for the time being. There's always something new just around the corner.

Thats really intesting louise.
I was thinking of getting fraxel myself for some minor acne scarring.
The scarring isnt' that bad. Just a few bits of uneveness.
Do you get the feeling the nurses would think minor scarring is worth treating with fraxel?

Kwan.G hi. I phoned the clinic I attend and asked one of the nurses based on your description: "minor acne scarring" and "a few bits of unevenness".
She told me that Fraxel is suitable and that the depth used can be modified as required. I asked if Fraxel was overkill for minor scarring and she said no.
I also asked about IPL but she confirmed that it required 'colour' to grab i.e. capillaries/pigmentation/freckles/sunspots and is not for scarring. However, if you look on the Google God, IPL is touted by some clinics for scarring as well.
I'd always recommend a personal consultation via a doctor prior to going ahead with a new treatment, and particularly in the absence of clear information as related above.
Interested in what you decide. Cheers! :)

I've decided I need to go off to see a dermatologist :)
My husband's uncle to be exact. Supposedly honest and a staight talker.
It sounds like I need some sensible professional advice I've been getting so much contradictory stuff from the google god, friends, cranky nurses on the phone.
The only reason I held off was because I was scared the dollar signs would light up in the doctor's face and he'ld just automatically recommend the most expensive procedure.
I'll tell y'all how it goes

I wish i had never had Fraxel! i paid $900. the doctor said that it would take care of the dark spots on my cheeks and it would make the pores on my cheeks look just like the pristine skin on the sides of my face. i thought what he means was that the pores on my cheeks would go away and look like pristine skin, but just the opposite happened!!
the dark spots are still there, but it looks like a section of flesh has been removed over the dark spots and healed indented like that. i think she overdid it. Now where the dark spots were is now an obvious indentation of flesh.
and worse yet, my pores are still there, but my prevoiusly beautiful, clear, pristine skin i used to have on the rest of my face looks like there are small pores all over the place! it is like my face is now riddled with tiny little holes all over!
This has been four months since my treatment, and I am so depressed over what i allowed this doctor to do to me. I just ask people to please not rush into this. make sure you see before and after close ups of patients. And beware. the doctor ususally likes to take the "after" pic about a week or two after the patient's fraxel treatment while the face is still slightly plump from residual swelling. once the swelling goes down, you are left with horrific results.

That sounds terrible Krystal. Have you gone back to your doctor to tell them you are really disappointed? I can't remember anyone else on the forum having such a bad experience.
I hope it improves over time. How many treatments did you have done?
Whilst having my eyebrows waxed the other day, i had a discussion with the girl about my acne scarring, ( this was at ella rouge) and she told me all about fraxel.
So anyway...This took me to the internet. I have been doing my research for two days, and I can honestly say the feedback is so confusing. Results are incredibly varied, and some of the horror stories are stopping me from going to a consult. Now whether these horror stories are a direct reflection of inexperienced practioners or not, it seems to me like a risky procedure considering the costs!!! The general consensus however is to have the best possible dermatologist performing the procedure.
My scarring isn't that bad...I'm 21 and i was on roaccutane for about a year when i was 17-18. So I presume the skin has done its own share of rejuvenation....the area im focusing on are my cheeks. They aren’t deep , and there’s a touch of redness on my cheecks, skin isn’t as tight on my cheeks and chin compared to the rest of my face too. It shows up a lot in natural day light.. on pictures or in shopping centres with the right makeup people can't even tell it’s there. Apparently. Who knows if they're just saying that to make me feel better! However that’s irrelevant.
The dermatologist who put me on roaccutane doesn't have the laser within his practice...not that i was too thrilled with him to begin with..so i have decided to get a consult at the sydney dermatology, with Chris Kearney. I hope this doesn't insult anyone; posting on a website supported by kiora medi spa! but im from sydney, and this was the only reliable forum i could find online within Australia :P
This is turning into a long message..but i guess i just want more feedback from all people who have had fraxel! Where you got it done..etc..
Oh, and the recovery period is something that has had very mixed opinions too. I originally looked into this option because apparently it had no downtime..but now there’s swelling and bruising..and a bronzed glow?? I would be able to have a max down time period of 2 days... cannot take more time off..there’s work and uni..and i cannot have my face peeling away under me.
and one more thing..
theres fraxel re:fine ,and fraxel re:store.
And i have ascertained that re:store is more beneficial for acne scarring.
If you know which treatment you had let me know also.
Thank you muchly!

Hi Princess4ever,
I also have large open pores that clogs with white and black heads. I couldn't wear make-up because it makes the pores more visible and clogs. I've spent so much money on different products over the years to rectify this problem without success. Is Fraxel the answer to my problem?? How effective was Fraxel on the size of your pores?

hi there...
I've had Fraxel laser treatment to my hands.
Even after being numbed, it felt like a hundred red-hot needles, and they go over each spot 8 times. My hands swelled and looked sunburned for a few days. The second time still hurt during, but the aftereffects were milder. Haven't had the third treatment yet. Apparently, it's easier on the face. I'm waiting until October to get that done. I had Photofacial laser in the past for rosacea, and that felt like being snapped with a rubber band over and over.
