Hi guys,

I've been reading that there are two types of wrinkles. Static and Dynamic wrinkles. Apparently botox works well for dynamic wrinkles and filler work well for static wrinkles. I understand this but don't really understand what the difference is between the two wrinkles and whether I should get either a filler or botox for myself. Can you guys help me out.

With so many injectables on the markets, even we find it challenging staying on top of the information!

An easy way to demonstrate the two different wrinkles is a simple mirrow test. If you look into a mirrow in neutral expression, the lines that are present are the "static" wrinkles. They are there when the muscles are still, and not forming expressions. Now talk, laugh and frown as hard as you can. You'll see the lines deepen and lengthen. This is the "dynamic" part of the wrinkles caused by the muscles pulling and "creasing" the skin.

Botox works on muscles while restylane is a "filler" which physically fills the volume under the skin. We use Botox to relax muscle movements - calm muscles means the "dynamic" wrinkles are greatly softened. For static wrinkles, fillers are a good choice to fill and plump the area and soften the lines.

Hope this helps.

Dynamic wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. where as Static wrinkles are the wrinkles and folds that are present at rest or when we are not forming facial expressions.
