This is going on in another thread but I thought I might get a better response in the guy forum.

Has any guy here had photorejuvenation for hte face? Were they worried about permanent facial hair loss?

I thought about it.

But permanent hair loss is the main hang up. My doctor couldn't guarantee my facial hair would continue to grow back

I've grown a goatee at least 3 times in my life and I'ld like the option of growing it back in the future.

I went for chemical peels eventually. They evened out my pigmentation nicely

Generally we don't do much photorejuvenation on male patients.

Althouhgt the green or yellow wavelength IPL heads are optimised to destroy pigmentaion rather than hair follicles inevitably some permanent hair loss does occur.

Unless a male is very sure they don't want to grow a beard we generally use other techniques such as fractional laser resurfacing or chemical peels to even out the pigmentation.

I briefly asked about getting photorejuvenation for my face.

I spent far too much time in the sun when I was a *****!

They basically advised me against getting it done for all of the above reasons, namely permanent loss of facial hair.

Doctor's do seem very reluctant to risk permanently removing a man's facial hair. Its a weird reluctance. But I guess thats why they don't want to photorejuvenate a man's face

I don't know why. I was adament I didn't ever want to shave my face again when getting my hair removal. I really wanted my face to get lasered. But my doctor pretty much flatly refused to do it "in case I changed my mind."

bah. I hate shaving. I'm going to literally twist his arm on my next visit to get my face lasered as well.

I've been conidering this for some time.

The thought of not being able to grow facial hair ever again does not daze me in the slightest.

I'm going to brave it.

I'll keep everyone posted

I think the doctors are just being arch conservatives again.

I got 4 courses of photorejuvenation for my face and my little moustache was almost completely undiminished.

Going on my experience I think a man could safely get photorejuvenation and still have reasonable or almost normal facial growth

Thats interesting kimmy,

Were the hairs of you moustache really fine and light coloured? Maybe thats why the laser didn't permanently remove them.

What colour IPL were your doctors using for photorejuvenation?

Hi 'rilla man,

sorry about late reply.

I missed your question for the last couple of days.

My facial hair is light brown. The hair is already fairly sparse so perhaps this is the reason it wasn't terribly effective

Often the facial hair is a far lighter colour and finer than the rest of the bodies' hair.

This can make laser hair removal for facial hair more difficult and slower. In addition the hairs are also far less dense than on other areas of the body. Since the hair removal removes 30% of teh hairs the effect is far less noticeable in areas where the hair is already sparse.

Generally we tell people they will need at least 6 sessions to see a good reduction in hair.

OK that makes sense.

I guess my facial hair is fairly fine and light coloured.

thanks guys
