I've seen a lot on botox injections lately. I was just wondering who can do it. I've been to places where an experienced clinical nurse was the injector and then my GP recommended I go to a plastic surgeon.

I know Botox in Australia is doctors or nurses with extra training only. I get it done by a doctor - don't want to take any chances even though some nurse injectors are a bit cheaper. I did ask at some big plastic surgeon places but the actual person who does the injection is their nurse/assistant. Didn't want to pay surgeon fees to get a nurse. No offence towards nurses or anything.

Hello Jomol31 and yummymummy,

The answer is anyone well trained who does a lot of botox injecting and goes to the trouble of answering all of your concerns and explaning all of the potential risks is good. If they don't ask about things like neuro-muscular disorders (myasthenia gravis/eaton-lambert syndrome etc etc) or give you a realistic view of what is achievable with botox then you should probably be wary.

I am of course biased towards doctors but even this is no guarantee of experience or skill. There are of course many very experienced nurse injectors out there. The Doctors tend to charge a little bit more per unit.

i've always had my botox done by my GP. He is very realistic about the results and I trust him implicitly.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. I'm pretty nervous but I had a chat to my GP about it and I had it done yesterday. Hopefully in 3-5 days I can start seeing the effects!

I have my botox done at a plastic surgery clinic.

The actual injection is done by a nurse injector. What do people think of this arrangement? Good or bad?

I was charged $20 a unit

Hi starfish,

I've been getting my botox injected since about July of last year by my GP who is really experienced in cosmetic procedures.

I don't know about letting a nurse inject me. If I was paying plastic surgery prices *shudder* I would want a plastic surgeon doing the treatment.
