In a lot of the places I read about laser hair removal I read about photorejuvenation.

Are they related?

Do they use the same laser?

Does it work?

Photorejuvenation refers to an Intense Pulse Light Treatment optimised to treat the surface of the skin.

We use a green wavelength of light that is optimised for targetting both haemoglobin (eg blood vessels) and pigmentation.

After a course of 4-6 treatments people find their pigmentation is far more even, the tiny capillaries and spider naevi are destroyed (secondary to haemocoagulation) and there is some mild tightening of the skin due to collagen stimulation.

Basically the green IPL helps repair a lot of the damage that excessive sun exposure causes

Might be astupid question.

But is it suitable for men? I'm a bit worried about the facial hair.

Will I still be able to grow a beard if I get photorejuvenation?

Thats actually a pretty good question.

I had heard that all intense pulse light treatments can cause permanent hair loss. So it is unlikely to be good for the man who wants the option of growing a beard one day.

Photorejuveantion uses a green light which is more sensitive for haemoglobin and pigmentation.

Red light is better for hairs.

IMHO a green light IPL would be ok for hairs.

Pardon me for asking but what is "IPL"

Hi Starfish,

that is not correct. Although a green 540nm wavelength is more selective for pigmentation and blood vessels it will still "pick up" the melalin in the hair follicles on the face.

Its not as effective for hair removal as a red 1064nm IPL but it will still result in permanent hair loss.

For this reason in general we don't recommend laser skin reuvenation for male clients.

Photorejuveantion uses a green light which is more sensitive for haemoglobin and pigmentation.

Hi Doctornev,

so is there anything that a male can do to repair the sundamage to their skin?

I'm clean shaven but I would like the option of regrowing a beard one day.

the resean is althrough both of them use IPL principle to do treatment, but the wavelengh of the two is different. for hair removal, we usually use 690-1200mm light, but for photorejuvenation, we use 560-1200mm light, so if it be adjust properly, you can have your skin rejuvenation while do not hurt your follicles, cause the energy is not enough to do that.
