Easy. Both. Shave just before the treatment and try to get as light as possible

Shave really really close! Use a blade. The one time I got burnt it was in a patch of my back I couldn't quite reach. The long hairs HURT and singed. There was a slight burn mark afterwards but thankfully it all faded away to nothing 6 months later.

I only recently completed my 5th session. It really helps to shave as close as possible. It hurts loads less!

I've never really understood this one. Wouldn't shaving too close just mean there is no hair for the laser to target. If there is just a miniscule stub above the skin isn't this an awfully small target in comparison to the rest of the skin you are lasering.

Having said that it definitely does hurt less if you shave closer. Its just that no one has explained why it is more effective

At our clinic we find there are 4 main ways to maximise your hair reduction result and decrease your chance of side effects happening

1. Have skin as white as possible. No tanning
2. Have hairs as black as possible 3
3. Shave as closely as possible - the closer the better. It is more comfortable, safer and you get a better result
4. Avoid sunlight

I've always wondered about this and it never got satisfactorily explained.

If the hair is really really short how does the laser know to burn out that little short hair?

If you have a tan from sun exposure or sunless tanning products, you must wait until the tan fades completely before undergoing laser hair removal. A tan increases your risk of side effects such as blistering and discoloration. Avoid sun exposure four to six weeks before treatment.

Laser hair removal is most effective if hairs are visible but shaved short. You can shave the day of the procedure. Avoid waxing or plucking the hair and electrolysis three weeks before treatment.

hi there...

Laser hair removal is great and really works although you will need a few sessions. They tell you to shave before coming in but I had better results when Iaser hair removal is great and really works although you will need a few sessions. They tell you to shave before coming in but I had better results when I shaved 24 hours before coming in. The laser is attracted to the black dot of your hair so if you are shaved too close you don't have as good as a result, at least that was my experience. And yes it does hurt a bit but oh so worth it. Gets rid of ingrown hairs in the future where you were lasered too....

I have heard that you can use baby oil , it will make your hair oily but you can wash out afterwards. Also leave conditioner on and brush your hair till it comes out.

That is a loaded question. I prefer my clients not to shave before there sessions actually, other practioners tell there patients to shave before there treatment so they don't have more work to do by shaving them. :D

Definetly less sun means less chance of getting a laser burn or scar, I usually tell my patients no sun or tanning for at least four weeks before treatment to be safe.

Of course going for walks or working out outside in the spring and summer in Austin, TX your going to get some sun, so I tell people to at least put on the 40 SPF sun screen, where a hat, sunglasses, and light long sleeve shirt if possible.

Hope that helps.
