View Full Version : Shrink cheeks?
I've been seeing a lot of people get botox to slim fown their cheeks. The doctors claim it reshapes the jawline?
Is this possible? Can Botox really reshape the jaw? I thought it just paralysed muscles
De-lurking for first time.
There's been a couple of other posts on this.
Apparently botox can be used to immobilise muscles for a long period of time. Because the muscle can't be used it gradually shrinks over time. That seems to be what people on this forum are saying

Can it really make your face more rounded though?
I've got a really square jaw which I don't mind. But I've always wondered what I would look like with a more rounded face. LIke Audrey Hepburns.
Is this reversible? Will it go back to normal after the botox wears off?

The jawline, or more precisely, the percieved jawline is determined by many factors.
An oval jaw has traditionally been associated with ideals of feminine beauty whilst a squared jaw has more usually been associated with ideals of musculinity.
One method of rounding off a square jaw and thus creating a more pleasing oval is to decrease the size of the masseters; the muscles primarily responsible for the chewing action.
Botox allows us to do this by immobilising and weakening these "chewing" muscles. With less use the msucles gradually atrophy and recede in size. The technique is very popular and has more or less supplanted a number of maxillary-facial procedures in Korea where it used to be very popular to surgically alter the jawline.
The main side effect is easy tiring on chewing. A normal meal is still ok but tackling that 600gm ages Rib Fillet could be a bit of a chore. But for various reasons not many of our clients looking at this procedure eat too many 600gm rib fillets :).
