Does juvederm last longer in the lips than restylane

Hi everyone.

I know the pros and cons of this have been discussed quite a bit. I posed this question in the permanent lip filler thread but thought I would get more replied if I just started up a brand new thread.

For people who have had both do they find the restylane or the juvederm lasts longer?

I've only just had it for the first time 3 months ago so I can't really comment on whether it lasts longer than restylane or not.

I like the look though. Its a bit softer and more natural feeling

I am similar to kally. I have had both in my lips. But juvederm is so new I've only had it done for 4 months. So I can't make any comment for at least 5-6 months.

My resty usually lasts a bit more than 9 months

I'm almost sold enough to try it in my lips anyway but it would be nice to get some first hand accounts

I think it is safe to say my juvederm lasted longer. Its been 8 months and by this time my restylane would normally be all gone.

My lips with juvederm are a bit smaller but its still clearly there pumping up my lip.


I will be able to tell for sure in 2-4 months but its looking promising

I think one thing people should be aware of when assessing "how long" a particular filler lasts is the duration in my experience is often most closely related to how much filler they put into an area.

The first time I ever got my nasolabial lines filled I only got one tube. It lasted maybe 5 months.


Nowadays I get 3 tubes. My nasolabial lines aren't THAT much deeper but I find it just lasts so much longer

I guess that makes sense. The more stuff you pump into your lips the longer it will stay there.

Do you think the same thing applies to botox? The more you put in the longer it lasts?

Botox queen is correct.

There are many factors that affect the longevity of dermal fillers. The type of product used is one factor but not the only factor.

Other factors that can contribute to a longer persistence of your filler (restylane and juvederm been by far the most popular) are:

1. Volume of filler put into lips
2. How active your lips are
3. If the fillers are put into active areas, say deep static wrinkles, then the amount of movement in that area will negatively affect the duration
4. Cocommitant use of botox will help aid longevity for the reason above
5. The deepness you doctor inserts the juvederm/restylane
6. The most important factor seems to be the one that we have least control over. Every patient is individual and some will metabalise products faster than others. In the extreme some will metabolise all of their filler in 4 months, Some will last out to almot 12 months. The vast majority seem to fall into the 9-10 month range.

I agree with other posters. Juvederm is far too new for us to say definitively if it lasts longer. This is a complex thing to assess because of the reasons above. But the evidence seems to be promising.

do you think trying to keep the lips as still as long as possible during the first 48 hours helps it last longer?

hannah I think you might be getting that part a bit confused.


You shouldn't overly rub the or squeeze the lips in the first 48hrs because it can move the juvederm around.

The last thing you want to do after shelling out big $$$$$$ for a specially skilled doctor to pump up your lips is to push it around with your clumsy hands!

I'm curious docnev.

Point 5 says "the deepness you put the restylane in."

Does this mean the deeper the filler is injected the longer it lasts. Or the converse?

I've never heard of this one before but its nice to read all of the points in one place now.
