A post from a new american member in the introductions forum got me thinking.

Do people here find botox is still a taboo topic of conversation? I've only ever mentioned my great botox once in social conversation and I'm still scarred from the experience.

Even talking to close friends its difficult to explain why you love your botox so much.

I have a couple of american friends and they say its a completely open topic of conversation in california.

Interesting difference.

I know exactly what you are talking about starfish.

The first time I brought up my botox with my best gf she looked at me like I had grown horns or something.

It took months to convince her I was still the same old down-to-earth friend she had had since high school.

Definitely taboo in Australian. I wouldn't dream of bringing it up in a social situation.

Definitely still taboo in Australia.

I had a friend out from California for coffee with the group and she was talking about how to find a good botox doctor in Australia.

The group went totally silent. And Sammy (my USA friend) was really confused by everyone's reaction.

She just assumed because I talked about it freely everyone in Australia had the same attitude

Definitely taboo. I'v got a female friend who loves her botox and fillers and she says the only person she can speak to about this is me!

She can't imagine talking about such things to her female friends and finds it much easier to have an analytical, objective conversation about such things with a male friend.

strange.

I would say its definitely taboo.

I just brought up the topic in a round-a-bout fashion at a dinner party. There were 5 people all vehemently opposed to it. They were vegans of course and eating carrot sticks but their strident opposition convinced me to keep the secret of my youthful good looks exactly that. Secret!
