Hi everyone. This is my first post so please be gentle :)
I saw a cosmetic doctor just for a general consult about my skin quality. I think my skin just looks a bit dull and tired. thought a little bit of botox around my eyes to flatten my smile lines would have been sufficient.
He suggested the first priority for improving the look of my skin was to even up the pigmentation before addressing the fine lines. He told me psychogically people judge a skin's age primarily by looking at the colour.
If the colour is uneven it looks old. If its nice and even in colour it looks young.
He suggested photorejuvenation first and then we could consider a small amount of botox after.
What do people think? Have the results of photorejuvenation been good?

Fading all my freckles and evening up the pigmentation was the best thing I ever did for my skin.
I had previously tried semi-regular facials and about 5 different premium creams.
Getting IPL for my face faded al lthose freckles and made me look about 10 years younger.
OK maybe 5 eyars :). But it was dramatic.

You definitely want to treat your pigmentation problems first and then go onto other things.
I've seen a couple of cosmeceutical articles. Apparently the active ingredient in even the super expensive anti-wrinkle creams is merely a "toner" which makes you skin look wonderfully even and smooth in colour.
Just by making the skin smooth everyone will think your wrinkles are far less severe.

I have been told on more than one occasion your first priority should be the correction of your pigmentation.
I think photorejuvenation is the best bang for your buck if your complexion is bad

Kyla I'm new too, so we'll be gentle with each other. ;)
I've been using IPL for 3 years now and the result has been just beautiful for my skin. The face, neck and decolletage look smooth and completely devoid of any discolouration. Except for the lines on my forehead, it's almost a porcelain effect. I think if I had to keep only one procedure, it would be IPL. Ouchy to get, but fabulous result.

Thanks guys. Its a hard choice to make. Botox of photorejuvenation.
Its even harder. During my consult it sounded like I needed about $400 of botox to flatten my lines and open up my eyes. Whereas I would need 5 $300 photorejuvenation sessions before I would see the best effect on my skin quality.
I am very tempted just to go for the instant fix of botox to be ready for this wedding.
Even though I know over the long term photorejuvenation will work out cheaper. (it is a once off cost)

Thanks Louise. I decided to go for it and get botox done.
I had a chat to my doctor and with the time frame in mind we decided botox was the way to go.
I had it done yesterday. All the swelling has gone down now and I'm waiting with baited breath to see what I look like in 3 or so days.
Its pretty exciting!

Fabulous, Kyla! All of these trail-blazers before me! I'm looking forward to reading about how it looks for you. Goodness, I'm so sorely tempted to deal with my glabellers with Botox. One day maybe.

Well I fancy I can already see a weakening in my frown and a softening of my crows feet.
I think I already look better! But I'll save my full report for 10 days time when I'm assured the botox will be working at full strength

The northern peoples tend toward fair skin and blue eyes because there is less sunlight there during much of the year. Blue eyes see better in lower light, which is why military sniper corps tend toward the blue eyed end of the spectrum, and the fairer skin allows more sunlight to penetrate to help the body make a specific and necessary vitamin, vitamin D

Photo-rejuvenation is considered as a safe treatment in the hands of an experienced therapist, as is performed through the use of non-laser, non-invasive, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology. Photo-rejuvenation technology improves the appearance of sun-damaged skin on the face (also called photo-facial) and body by treating broken capillaries, age spots (sun-induced freckles) and sun-damage. The treatments are gradual, with noticeable results achieved over several treatments.
The treatment involves gently delivering precise amounts of light energy through the skin?s surface to stimulate the natural production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging and sun damaged skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased and the redness associated with Rosacea can be dramatically reduced. Treatments restore a more youthful appearance and improve skin texture without any downtime ? allowing you to return to work or leisure activities immediately.

Also try microdermabrasions there usually around $75-$100 and can be done just once a month or every other month on a budget and they do great things for people's skin. Then use at least SPF 30 sub block when outside, limit your sun exposure, use daily lotion on your face and stay away from the booze, smoking, and coffee.

pigment called melanin that has accumulated in the upper layer of skin, the epidermis. Ephelides is common in lighter type skin in individuals who sunburn easily. Lentigines usually appear later and freckles. Liver spots are different from freckles. Freckles are caused by melanin pigments that react to sunlight in fair-skinned individuals
