I'm going to start my laser hair removal for my legs and bikini line this winter.

My problem is I will be in summer and hopefully suntanning after only 2 of the needed 6 session.

I was wondering what people here thought about been on the beach in 50+ super sunscreen after laser hair removal? The new generation sunscreens block out a lot more of the UV light than the older sorts.

I would really like to get all of my sessions finished by the summer of 2008 but I don't want to miss out on any beach time if I can help it.

You're right.

The new generation sunblocks are a lot stronger than the old 15+ sunblocks.

I wonder if anyone has done a study to see if you can sunbake with 50+ sunblock on safely after laser hair removal.

My bet is the sunscreens are so new there are no studies to prove its safety or otherwise

I don't know. I was under the impression any sun exposure was bad regardless of the type of sunblock.

I think if its still possible to tan under the sunblock than its not strong enough and I've been to the beach with my new whizz bang 50+ sunblock and it didn't stop me from tanning.

I wouldn't risk it.

I haven't read anything about whether the new super sunscreens are good enough to allow you to sunbake after laser hair removal.

They might be too new for us to know. Until you hear otherwise I think it'ld just be safer if you stayed out of the sun in the 3 weeks after laer hair removal.

The modern thinking seems to be that no matter the SPF factor of sunscreen it is no substitute for suitable clothing eg hats, long clothes, shade etc.

They are all pushing that sunscreen is only an additonal protection to other protection.

With the consequences of sun exposure after laser hair removal being so high I seriously doubt anyone is going to say SPF 5+ is now strong enough to enable you to go bake in the sun after a treatment session

Maybe sunbaking under the extreme aussie sun is too much even for 50+ sunblock directly after LHR.

But what about using 50+ block on your face before skiing? The sun isn't anything like as intense here in Canada and its winter anyway. I got my ahem little moustache lasered and it always hurt me when I lost 2 weeks of the ski season because of LHR
